The new IVECO 4x4 LMV stems over the ever growing need to field conveniently protected scouting vehicles when deployment is effected in risky areas.
Since its inception, infact, the IVECO LMV project has not only been focused on good performances but also on how to ensure crew safety against both mine explosions and light firing.
This has been achieved by conveniently placing the main mechanical components (installed either in front or in the rear of the chassis so as to prevent, in case of a mine explosion, their bullet-like fragments from intruding inside the cabin) and by utilizing additional armour kits which, when in place, allow different levels of front and sides protection.
With the aim of increasing the LMV survival capability, moreover, all contrivances have been taken to reduce:
Thermal and acoustic emissions;
Two main versions are available:
Long cabin and 3200 mm wheel base, to be used as scouting car and weapons platform; can accommodate up to 5 soldiers;
Short cabin and 3500 mm wheel base, to be used as command car.
In case of far-away deployments the vehicles can easily be hooked-up by CH-47 helicopters.
The VLM has already been acquired by the Italian Army and, in the frame of the “future command and liaison vehicle” program, it has also been choosen by the British Army.
